Rules & Format

Tactical rucking is a tribute to the heavy burden borne by those in service. At Riptide Ruck, we translate this culture into a physical standard of resilience. Every mile on the sand is earned, every pound is a reminder of the mission.

Weight & Gear

Participants must carry a weighted backpack rucksack.

Starting weights:

Body wt > 150 lb: 30 pounds

Body wt < 150 lb: 20 pounds

Weight must be carried inside the rucksack.

Permitted starting weights include:

  • ruck plates

  • sandbags

  • dumbbells

  • other secured weight

All packs will be weighed prior to the start.

The Format

Riptide Ruck uses a last-person-standing format. Participants complete a 3-mile loop every hour.

Rules:

  • Each loop must be completed within 60 minutes

  • Participants receive approximately 10-15 minutes rest

  • A new loop begins exactly every hour

  • Participants must start each loop within 1 minute of the start hour

  • Failure to finish or start results in elimination

  • The event continues until only one participant has completed a loop

  • One person will complete the race, all others will be DNF (did not finish)
